How can the taste of the scrumptious Hong Kong delicacy \u2013 mooncakes \u2013 not remind us of home? The story of having mooncakes at Mid-Autumn Festival originates from the Yuan Dynasty where mooncakes played a part in starting a revolution. As people suffered a lot under the Yuan Dynasty, many wanted to revolt but the government\u2019s close monitoring made it hard to exchange messages. It was said that the Han Chinese rebel leader, Liu Bo Wen, gained permission to give mooncakes as gifts to his friends in different areas. Liu asked his subordinates to hide a piece of paper inside the mooncakes with the message to start a revolution on the 15th of August. Eventually, the revolution was successful and the Yuan Dynasty was overthrown. The story speaks to Hongkongers in exile in different and special ways. Hongkongers in Britain will hold a mooncake making class and celebrate Mid-Autumn Festival by making our own mooncakes.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
